Some trips linger in the back of one’s mind for years and this is one of them – so here we are in the depths of the Black Forest, in a narrow valley campsite, and surrounded by soaring pines. (August 2024)
With our trusty caravan in tow, we’ve driven through France, Belgium, Luxembourg and now we’re here, Kleinenzhof near the spa town of Bad Wildebad – I’ve only just discovered that ‘Bad’ which prefixes so many German locations approximately means ‘spa’, so far removed from the English connotation of the word!
Memorable highlights from our first site, Kleinenzhof? The half timbered, tall, ancient houses (and German breakfast) in beautiful Calw, cycling in the high, high heights of the Schwarzwald, https://www.blackforestgermany.com/ the tree top walk way with views as far as the eye could see, ice-cream in Freudenstadt, the Faberge Museum in baden Baden, Batorama cruise and the Gothic Cathedral at Strasbourg and on to the southern Balck Forest and Lake Constance…
The high slopes topped with warm, fertile summer pasture land and scenic bike trails (checking the map!)
Perfect breakfast spot overlooking the quaint square of ancient half-timbered tall and majestic houses contrasting with the impressive majesty of the gothic cathedral in Strasbourg.
