After nearly two months of almost continuous winter rain it’s been a joy to finish a warm, vibrant painting of cheerier summer days wandering along the slopes of the Chiltern Ridge, often a Sunday afternoon activity.
The brightest lights aren’t always in the sky… sometimes the glow stays low!
This painting began with my favourite plaster medium (which adheres well to canvas) – it’s a ‘chalk rich’ ground, resonating with the chalk geology of the Chilterns beneath. Though now clearly agricultural land, the ridges and scrapes embedded in the plaster’s surface lend authenticity — bringing to life traces of centuries of human activity here, perhaps 2000 years or longer from evidence of early Neolithic farming and settlements.
The three iconic scrub trees stand as sentinels of time, lending life and rhythm to the scene whatever the season. A relaxed yet invigorating painting, alive with vibrant colours. (50x40x4cm)
