…almost hidden, almost imagined.…
This piece is another response to the work of Nicholas de Stael (1914-1955) – a painter whose bold, textural, semi-abstract work inspires me. Here I’ve used palette knife and texture plaster to create a tactile and engaging foreground to balance the drama of the blue beyond. The tracked, angled land or shore leads the eye towards the dense sweep of Prussian blue sky, the horizon, the beached boat and the ghostlike outline of a waiting liner – almost hidden, almost imagined.
