This piece is a response to Red Flowers by Nicholas de Stael – a painter whose bold, textural, semi-abstract work inspires me; I have used his language of weight (through palette knife), offset form and rather moody colour with a sudden ‘lift’ of brighter red balancing the eye. Moody yet quietly alive…
