How many times have I walked ‘The Downs’, flown a kite at Dunstable Downs, seen red kites soar over the Downs, watched pilots fearlessly land their gliders beneath the Downs, laid a picnic blanket on the slope of the Downs on calmer days, eaten an ice-cream – just resting, windblown, watching… decades of life shared with others and memories laid down.
The Downs have a fascinating history within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), a ‘breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations’.
The view can simply take your breath away as will the bite of the wind on a day such as this, caught between the seasons. This Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is designated for the quality of the chalk grasslands, inherently depicted, frosty snow on chalk slopes.
