This large, highly textured semi-abstract painting is shaped by my own encounters with the Atlantic – watching waves advance, rise, break and scatter in frantic foam against all obstacles in their way. I have aimed to capture the tangible thrill and excitement of the Atlantic’s final sweeping surge and vast momentum as it encounters the rocks and cliffs at the end of a long journey. The darker, weighty passages anchor the eye while churning whites carry the energy of sea and spray. A narrow sky opens at the top of the scene, with a muted sun pressing though the haze.

Ocean and rocks are sculpted in plaster medium for a tangible, textural feel; ‘Uncharted’ invites touch as well as a lingering gaze. It’s a memory and a feeling with the sense of facing something vast and uncharted.

‘Uncharted’ on the easel and nearing completion.
