Today is Saint Patrick’s Day over in Ireland… ☘️☘️☘️ … and for me, living in England but rooted there, it’s not the celebrations, the Guinness 🍺or even the music 🎶, it’s the love of what I will always call ‘home’ - held in the people, the memories, and the island’s astonishing beauty. 💙💚💙 There’s a deep lake hidden in County Wicklow; it’s perfectly formed heart shape looks imagined but it isn’t. So here’s that perfect heart painted in ultramarine for a day of celebrating the Green! 💚💙💚 I call it ‘Love in the Mountains’, Lough Ouler ( try pronouncing that!) and I’ve pushed the texture to echo the surrounding peat bogs and rough terrain – it almost leaps off the canvas. Small, humbled, utterly captivated by the drama of this 121 foot cascade— my all time fav waterfall… 💦💦💦 Ireland’s highest waterfall, cliffs towering above, water plunging into a dark, endless pool… 💦💦💦 Where it comes from or goes I’ve no clue yet. Lucky you – if you did manage a glimpse through a break in the clouds! Such a rare opportunity this weekend, six planets — Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune all aligned in the evening sky and I didn’t see a thing! Thought I’d revisit three little sparkling 15 cm canvases. The brightest lights aren’t always in the sky… sometimes the glow stays low! This painting began with my favourite plaster medium (which adheres well to canvas) - it’s a ‘chalk rich’ ground, resonating with the chalk geology of the Chiltern Ridge beneath. Though now clearly agricultural land, the ridges and scrapes embedded in the plaster’s surface lend authenticity — bringing to life traces of centuries of human activity here… The three iconic scrub trees stand as sentinels of time, lending life and rhythm to the scene whatever the season. Just one sprout! In time for ‘the season’ - the newest mischief-maker in my produce family: ‘Baby Brussel’! (P.S….below) 🥦🥦🥦 Small in size, mighty in texture, and apparently convinced it can brighten any corner it’s set in. Prop it, hang it, tuck it into a shelf—this tiny sprout knows how to steal the spotlight and this month joins my Coaster Collection, just in time for Christmas lunch! 💚✨ PS These 20cm fruit and vegetable paintings are my travel companions. We did it! Art At Wingrave 2025 and for the first time, not in our home. 🏠 At the start of the week it was an empty, slightly lonely-looking community centre — and I wondered how an 8-foot board (so different from the freedom of my studio at home) would work for me, and for all the 2D artists. On Friday the transformation began. Every corner was used, even the stage, and the space became warm, welcoming and unmistakably Christmassy. What emerged was a beautifully lit exhibition buzzing with conversation, curiosity, and hundreds of visitors. 🎄🎄🎄 Thank you to everyone who came, supported the event so generously, and chose artworks as Christmas gifts. Huge thanks too to the volunteers who kept the bar running all weekend, and to the community centre for being such a welcoming venue. And thanks to everyone’s generosity (and enthusiasm for mulled wine and mince pies!), £506 was raised for Cancer Research UK. We really did it. Art At Wingrave 2025.
